About

My work is inspired by the landscapes I walk and cycle through. I am concerned, like many of us, by the decline of biodiversity and the climate crisis. Through my work I want to represent the diverse natural habitats of Britain, celebrate the animals that rely on them and instil in others a sense of awe for nature and a desire to protect it.

The paintings are often a close up view of the landscape, so that the subject I am interested in, whether that be a tree or House Martin is to the fore and centre of the image.

In the studio, I value the distance from my subject matter, as this allows me to blend the on location sketches with my visual and emotional memory of the place. I enjoy using colour relationships and the paints physicality to lead the final direction of the finished paintings.
